Off to the Races!

As you know there has been a bit of a delay to some of our classroom routines due to my late start.  I want to thank parents for the well wishes. I am feeling better.

The students have been put in math groups, and next week we will begin our guided reading and spelling groups.  The students have been getting used to some new classroom routines.  Above all, Ms. Sevara and I have been emphasising independence and responsibility in the classroom, particularly as it relates to caring for their personal belongings and notebooks.

In our Unit of Inquiry (UOI), Who We Are, we have been doing some research about how we all learn differently, how we have our own learning styles.  The children drew some wonderful self portraits which have been posted up on the wall outside our classroom.  As we move through this UOI, and others, the children will add words and dialogue statements about their learning.  Next week we will be introducing iPads to our learning mix, where the children will begin to produce and collate their work on our google drive.  This google drive folders will be made available for parents to take a look on some of the work they are doing.

This week we have been reading Roald Dahl's book, The Twits.  The students have been identifying and writing about the main characters and the setting.  In our first math group session, we have begun working on place value.

It has been really nice getting to know your children.  It is so good to be at school with them!
