SLCs

It was great to see almost all students come to Student Led Conferences with one or more parents today.  I think you will agree that there has been so much growth in the students.  With 7 weeks left in school however, there is still a fair bit of consolidation to happen to fully prepare them for grade 4.  Parents and students should be proud.

Pictures for the Week of April 16-20

Congratz to Sebastian!

Sebastian was incredibly committed last weekend as he cycled over 100 laps in support of the Prader-Willi Syndrome.  Well done Sebastian!!!

Ethics and Angles

As we are starting to wind down our UOI, How the World Works, we have been learning about various minerals and their properties, where they are found, as well as the value and uses of minerals and metals.  This week the students have been grappling with more philosophical issues about the ethics of mining.  What is our responsibility as consumers when it comes to technology?  Should we care about where minerals and metals come from? And critically, what if it is children who mine these minerals?  As part of our investigation into this fact, the boys and girls are putting themselves in the shoes of others who are involved in minerals and metals, such as consumers, technology companies, mine owners, families of child miners and of course the child miners themselves.  Be sure to read the letters the 3P students wrote to a particular child miner who exemplifies child miners.  See one of the letters below:

We have also been writing a narrative about a snowy playground.  Our Rainbow Sheep stories have proceeded to the final editing stage.  We hope to have it go to print within the next two weeks.

In math we have been reviewing angles and BEDMAS, the rules of order for operation.

See the pictures above!

Have a great Sunday evening!

Student Led Conference: Monday, April 23rd.

Hello students and parents!

Please note there is no school on Monday.  You are only required to come at the time listed in the table below. The students are excited to bring you into their classroom to show their learning to you.  There will be a series of stations set up around the room.  Please note that there will be other families in the room, and try to visit each station if possible.  And as well, try to visit the classroom of the specialty teachers.  I am looking forward to seeing you on Monday!  Below is the schedule in case you are not sure when to come.
