Ethics and Angles

As we are starting to wind down our UOI, How the World Works, we have been learning about various minerals and their properties, where they are found, as well as the value and uses of minerals and metals.  This week the students have been grappling with more philosophical issues about the ethics of mining.  What is our responsibility as consumers when it comes to technology?  Should we care about where minerals and metals come from? And critically, what if it is children who mine these minerals?  As part of our investigation into this fact, the boys and girls are putting themselves in the shoes of others who are involved in minerals and metals, such as consumers, technology companies, mine owners, families of child miners and of course the child miners themselves.  Be sure to read the letters the 3P students wrote to a particular child miner who exemplifies child miners.  See one of the letters below:

We have also been writing a narrative about a snowy playground.  Our Rainbow Sheep stories have proceeded to the final editing stage.  We hope to have it go to print within the next two weeks.

In math we have been reviewing angles and BEDMAS, the rules of order for operation.

See the pictures above!

Have a great Sunday evening!
